Build Your Purpose Statement 💫
There’s a moment in life where achievement alone stops feeling like enough. The promotions, the pay rises, the packed calendar — they look good on the outside, but inside you’re asking: What’s the point? Why am I really doing this?
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably wrestled with this question and wanted to get the answer “perfect.” And because it never felt perfect, you ended up feeling purposeless.
I remember reading Start With Why by Simon Sinek and thinking, Yes, this makes so much sense. But when I sat down to write my own “why,” I froze. I didn’t know what to do next. I kept second-guessing. I thought purpose was something out there — a lightning bolt of clarity that would arrive fully formed.
But here’s the truth: purpose doesn’t arrive perfectly packaged. It evolves. It’s something you uncover piece by piece, by looking at what you care about, what you’re good at, who you want to help, and what you’ve lived through.
Purpose isn’t a “nice-to-have.” It’s your compass when you’re lost, your anchor when you’re drifting, and your energy source when the spark runs out. Without it, we keep chasing the next big thing, hoping it will fill the gap. With it, we gain direction — clarity about what matters and courage to align our choices with it.
And it starts here, with five simple steps. ✨
Step 1: Your Fuel – What Drives You?
👉 Complete this: “I give a sht about…”*
Write 1–3 phrases. Don’t overthink it. Go straight to what makes your heart race — the issues that light you up or break you down.
Step 2: Your Superpowers – What Do You Bring?
👉 Complete this: “I’m freakishly good at…”
List 3 talents, skills, or strengths. These are the things people rely on you for — your natural edge, whether it’s problem-solving, listening, leading, or creative thinking.
Step 3: Your People – Who Are You Here For?
👉 Complete this: “I care deeply about…”
Write down 1–2 groups or types of people you feel drawn to. Maybe it’s young professionals, women in leadership, small business owners, or people navigating burnout.
Step 4: Your Lived Experience – What Have You Learned?
👉 Complete this: “Because I’ve lived…”
Write 2–3 short truths you’ve earned through your own journey. These are your scars, your stories, your wisdom — the parts of life that qualify you to guide others.
Step 5: Draft Your Purpose Statement ✍️
Now let’s put it together in a draft (and remember — it will evolve as you do):
“I use my [superpowers 🦸♀️] to support/encourage/help/hype/heal [people you care about 🧡] to [solve a problem or create a transformation 👩🔧] because [the hard-earned wisdom you’ve lived 🦉].”
Example
“I use my clarity and compassion to support burnt-out professionals in reconnecting with their voice and values because I know what it’s like to feel trapped in a career that no longer serves you.”
💡 Your Turn
Take 10 minutes today. Draft your purpose statement. Let it be messy, let it evolve, but most importantly — let it be yours.
